The Josh Hamilton Chase Heats Up
What’s the future for Rangers slugger, Josh Hamilton? It’s kind of a dreary subject to really think about. Josh Hamilton no longer playing in Texas. Kind of like Albert Pujols no longer playing in St. Louis. I thought for sure Pujols would re-sign with the Cardinals. But the more I thought about it, I came to the conclusion that he probably wouldn’t. He’s getting old. He can’t play at first base forever. He’ll need a DH spot. But Anaheim?? Who’d of thought!
Back to Hamilton. Who are the likely teams to sign him? Well, let’s take a look at some of the teams that can actually afford him.
The New York Yankees: It would be very un-Yankee like for them to not throw a deal at Hamilton. Even though the Yankees pretty much have their outfield locked down with Granderson, Swisher, and Gardner. Aside from that, the Yanks have plenty of money to offer Hamilton to lure him to a pinstripes uniform.
The Milwaukee Brewers: Remember the Brewers offered Prince Fielder quite a hefty (no pun intended) contract. Since Fielder didn’t re-sign with the Brewers, they have a huge void to fill. Hamilton would be a good fit and they could afford him.
The Anaheim Angels of Anaheim: I wouldn’t count them out of this. They ponied up for Pujols and C.J Wilson and aren’t re-signing Torii Hunter. That says a lot of where this team is wanting to go. Even though Hunter batted .304 last season and can still produce, I’m thinking they might make a run at Hamilton to fill that CF spot.
The Atlanta Braves: Even though they usually fill their ranks with home-grown baseball players, the Braves have been a contending team for over a decade. With Chipper Jones retiring, that may free up some extra cash to sign Josh Hamilton. On the flip side of things, they haven’t really paid out for their star outfielder as it is. So we’ll see just how serious they are.
The Seattle Mariners: It probably won’t happen. Even with the fences pulled in.
The San Diego Padres: Same thing the Mariners have going on. Broke, non-contending playoff team but have their fences being pulled in, too. Will that be enough to attract a slugger like Josh Hamilton?
I have no idea where Josh is going to end up. I hope the Rangers re-sign him and I hope the fans quit boo-ing him, also.
