The Seattle Mariners Trade Michael Pineda and Wayne Peck Renounces his Fanship From the M’s
Michael Pineda will start the 2012 baseball season in Yankee pinstripes. That doesn’t come as a surprise to a Mariners fan that’s been loyal for 23 years. I once met Gaylord Perry and when I shook his hand I told him I was a die-hard Mariners fan. The only thing Mr. Perry could do as he pulled his hand away was to laugh at me. Yes, he laughed at me. Do you want to know what he said as he adjusted his San Francisco Giants hat? “Wow. That’s a long time of heart breaks and disappointments.” This is a horrible picture, I know, but it proves that my story is true.
I gave him one of those nervous chuckles. You know, when you laugh at something and you’re not quite sure if the other guy was serious? Yeah, one of those laughs. But Gaylord Perry was serious as a heart attack. Yes indeed.
Before that I was just a young boy when Ken Griffey Jr uprooted from Seattle and left for Cincinnati. I was shell-shocked. I didn’t understand. And the media was blowing it all out of proportion. Griffey left on a bad note. He upset fans and it seemed like he didn’t care. But he got a standing ovation when he returned in a Reds uniform. I was over it by then. But when he left I took all my Griffey posters down, pulled all of my Griffey baseball cards out of my binders and put everything in a shoe box and stored it on the top shelf of my closet.
Now its 2012. 23 years later. And the Mariners are still making stupid trades, bad decisions and Seattle is still in one of those “rebuilding” stages. Well, this Mariner fan has had enough! I’ve had enough, I say! I want a new baseball team! I want a team that cares about the fans! That doesn’t just trade away their star players for insurance and money! These baseball players aren’t circus animals! I curse you Jack Zduriencik! You’re an evil man! I’m sick of this hocus-pocus bullcrap! The Seattle Mariners nearly left for Florida ten years ago and yet they still flirt with danger! Trading away Pineda! What the hell, Jack?!
Yeah, I’m upset and I want everyone to know it! When I attend Mariners fanfest at the end of this month I’m going to make sure I wear Royals swag! Or Colorado Rockies swag! Something besides Mariners anything!
Jack Zduriencik, you are a pig-headed nincompoop! Seattle deserves better!

It is hard for me to see anything good about this too. But we’ll get through this. An you’ll be back. Mark my words.
Its very hard to understand this trade. In my opinion, the Mariners got rid of Pineda before he rose to stardom and started demanding a huge contract. I think what we got for Pineda is a joke. Maybe Montero is good, but we have a solid backstop with Olivo and with Moore coming off an injury, it is certain that he will be healthy to help produce.
The Seattle Mariners are the undisputed jokers of the MLB. Their organization is absolutely hideous to say the least. Wedge is in a constant state of tinkering with his batch of underperformers and I wonder how long he will use this pointless strategy. Oh, wait, thats exactly what he did in Cleveland for years. Wallowing in a constant stae of futile rebuilding and hoping. How weak can you get? I would rather undergo root canal procedures than endure the boredom and futility of wasting my time on this shit sucking organization.
Although the Mariners have been in a losing “rebuilding” status, I’m just grateful baseball is still in Seattle
Does it look any better now that Montero looks like he can be okay behind the plate and Pineda couldn’t even start the season? It is early, but Seattle looks like the winner of this trade. This team has a great foundation and is going to be good in the next few years. I think you quit a bit early on this team.
Pabco33,
Of course it looks good, NOW. I’m still not on board with it because the Mariners are a proven team with offense. For me, pitching- and good pitching- is important. Pineda offered a serious one- two punch caliber rotation behind Felix and Vargas following.
Anyway. What’s done is done.
