Greg Maddux Gets a Brand New Job

Greg Maddux or “Mad Dog” as he used to be called in his pitching days will be the special assistant to the General Manager of the Texas Rangers. The assistant TO the General manager. That kind of reminds me of an episode of the The Office.

All eyes are on you, Mad Dog! So what do you say? I don’t have much else to report on this except that with Greg Maddux upstairs somewhere sitting around in a fancy suit, what do the Rangers actually gain? Or will Maddux be suiting up in a Rangers uni and hitting the field working with the pitchers? It’s all speculation right now. What about when Ken Griffey Jr hired onto the Seattle Mariners organization as a special assistant? I never once saw Junior at the ballpark. And where did the Mariners finish last season? Oh, that’s right. Last place.

I sound like a nay sayer but I have every right to be. All these “special assistant” whatever job titles are just that. They’re glorified positions to keep some of these dudes employed. And yes, I am all for employment and people having jobs…but c`mon. Seriously? When one of these “special assistants” actually help a team produce wins and a championship I’ll stop being such a cynic. Until then… bleh!
