I Hate That Rafael Furcal is a St. Louis Cardinal
I mean, seriously. What did the Cardinals gain by getting Rafael Furcal? No, no. Let me rephrase that. What did the Cardinals gain by getting Lance Berkman? The guy has been nicknamed “Big Puma”. Are you impressed? I’m not. (You’ll have to excuse me. I’m not a Cardinals fan by any means) Even though I spent two years ballhawking in Busch Stadium and being subjected to Cardinals baseball I will say this; the fans are not that bad. People say that Cardinals fans are spoiled. If any fan is spoiled in baseball that stereotype would belong to Yankee fans. No doubt about it. Cardinal fans are just happy people who enjoy having a winning baseball team in their town. I don’t blame them. My favorite team is the only team left in the Major Leagues that hasn’t been to the World Series. Aside from the Nationals, but they used to be the Expos and the Expos went to the World Series before.
Anyway. Back to this whole Furcal thing. Im just curious as to why the Cardinals would want someone like Furcal. I’m not saying he’s a horrible player but he was only batting .197 at the time of the trade. And do you know what the Dodgers got in return? A minor leaguer that has yet to play anything over Double-A ball. Eeesh! Plus, the Cardinals added Ryan Theriot to their lineup this season as well! Just because Theriot was slumping means go out and get another shortstop? Double-eesh!!
And now look at the Cardinals. Eight games out of first place. Did Furcal honestly make an impact? When they traded for Furcal the Cards were only a game and a half out of first. Now their playoff hopes are dwindling. Are they out of the pennant race? Not really…but if they want to get back into it I think they’ll need to trade for more than just a Rafael Furcal.
