Jim Thome Bashes #600 and #601 But …
Jim Thome has crossed the threshold of yet another major milestone. Blasting 600 home runs in a career as a baseball player is pretty impressive. I remember when Ken Griffey Jr mashed his 600th at Sun Life Stadium in Florida as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. I remember when Alex Rodriguez did the same thing last year. A few players like Manny Ramirez have come close but what makes this extra special is that I was 10 years old when Jim Thome launched his first career home run at Old Yankee Stadium into the second deck in 1991. I actually traveled to Angels Stadium on 8-3-2011 and 8-4-2011 in pursuit of catching Thome’s 600th career dinger.
Jim Thome also has hit his 601st home run of his career as well. That’s all great and stuff but what about the Minnesota Twins? The most recent good news I’ve heard about the franchise is that they changed their Twitter account name to just “@Twins” instead of the “@MinnesotaTwins”. The Twins have been plagued with injuries all season long. It looked like they would be a playoff contending team this year but right from the start guys dropped like flys. Here, take a look.
